XO Fish Head Noodle

I had a few meetings this morning and decided to meet up with my ex-colleague for lunch after that. I suggested to have fish head noodle (my favourite) and took him to Goon Wah XO Fish Head Noodle Restaurant in Kuchai Lama.

This coffee shop is already there for a long time and they only opened from Monday to Friday. They closed during weekends and evenings as well. I guessed they are just too rich by now!!!

You won't be able to miss the shop cos when you reach the traffic light at the Shell station in Kuchai Lama, you just need to take a left turn and the the shop is just along the row of shoplots on the right. It is just in the middle of the shoplots and next to a coffinshop.

This place served very good fish head noodle and claypot lou she fun. They used the thick mihoon together with the fish head and served in a claypot. U will be surprised to find yam in it too. I liked the aroma of it as it is not too creamy.

This place is also famous for the fried pig intestines and stomachs. I called it a miss. However, I go for the layered pork with yam served with bun. Indeed, this is a better choice.

With drinks, it only costed me RM40. Very reasonable.

If you happened to go but not too sure about the location, kindly call 03 - 7982 0048.

Have fun!

Russian food in Solaris

I came across this Russian restaurant, Samovar in Solaris Mont Kiara and decided to give it a try. Samovar literally "self-boiler", is a heated metal container traditionally used to heat and boil water in and around Russia.

Well, a very quiet place and location is not too good as it is facing the highway at the upper level of Solaris Mont Kiara but I luv the Twin Tower view if U sat outside the restaurant.

This could be one or the only Russian restaurant in town and the owners served authentic Russian food.

The owner recommended a Borsch soup as a starter together with it's signature Olivia salad. I enjoyed the vegetable based soup. They claimed that the Olivia salad is an authentic russian salad which made up of green peas, carrot, corns and a little shallot with small cubes of chicken in a thick mayo sauce. I believed there is also a little bit of yogurt in it. I am not too fancy of this cos this salad is really filing.

Olivia Salad
To my surprised, when the main course arrived, it resembles a mixture of western and chinese dishes. Katletti, breaded minced chicken with butter and cheese filling served with rice. Not bad for a deep fried minced chicken.

I also ordered the Russian dumplings, pilmeni. They looked like chinese dumplings but it is served dry. Haha! So don't expect to see the dumplings in a nice bowl of hot soup. Funny thing is the dippings are yogurt and chilled butter. Kind of weird combination. I asked for chili sauce instead!

Well, overall, it is a great experience. They don't serve russian beer nor wine. I don't think the business can sustain for long judging from the items that they offerred.

The menus also include some western and local food.
