Not so long ago, the Malaysian government said they were considering the Indonesian embassy's request for Indonesian maids to have weekends off from work.
What they didn't consider was where maids could go.
Can you imagine the maids loitering or camping at the KLCC park, or flooding the shopping complexes further?
In Hong Kong, I was observing Causeway Bay, an upmarket area and shopping district, where the Hong Kong government allowed maids to camp around and under the bridges, Victoria Park, and other designated areas. Cleaners were on standby in the evening to clear all the rubbish before nighttime.
It is a social issue for the Malaysian government to consider, unless they only want to resolve matters as and when they arise.
